Dear Step 1 Takers,
I encountered a discrepency between UWorld and FA 2016 regarding the Phosphoinositol System and the intermediate that causes smooth muscle contraction. The diagram in FA 2016 (242.2) shows that an activated Gq causes downstream signalling including DAG that activates Protein kinase C and IP3 that increases intracellular Ca2+ to cause smooth muscle contraction. In UWorld question 1122, the answer states that the major activator of Protein kinase C is an increased intracellular IP3 that causes increased intracellular Ca2+. Which one is correct? ![]() Kind Regards, L Last edited by InHereNow; 04-16-2016 at 12:29 PM. |
