Hey guys,
I've just begun studying pathology and like everyone told me I'm trying to do Goljan. Now something I didn't get is whether the must for step 1 is the Rapid Review Pathology book or the Audio or both.. Since the way I'm doing it so far is I'm reading only the sections that are covered in his recordings but it seems that he's not covering every part of the book (obviously due to time constraints), so what would you guys suggest? Is it a must to both listen to the audio AND learn the whole book? and if so, in which order (first just listen then read or the opposite)? I'm planning on doing Pathoma anyways but would really like to nail path for the exam. Thanks to any helpers! ![]() |

I think if you have time it is better to do both. I would personally choose the audio if I had to choose but the choice is more about your learning style than about one being more effective. If doing both its easier to read first and then listen to the audio. It also gives you flexibility as you can listen to the audio while doing other activities like driving etc. Once you have read it once you will have a good idea of what he is talking about already and can always refer back to the book to clarify any points. Lastly you can always repeat any sections of the audio later in your study if you want to re-review a particular area.

The book is more comprehensive and also contains visual aids. The audio is good at explaining things in a way you can understand. However, some of the material you have to more than just understand you have to memorize so the book will be good for that. The key is once you finish the book and the audio, to refer back to the book as you do practice questions particularly when you get them wrong and re-review those sections. That is the way to use the book to solidify your weakest areas and also make sure you understand what material in the book you will be tested on and HOW they will test you on the material. It is also the way to know what material in the book you need to just understand and what material you will have to memorize. That part can come later, your first pass is really just to soak it in.
