Default pseudostratified epithelium

What is the purpose of having pseudostratified columnar epithelium? Wouldn't simple columnar epithelium serve the same purpose?

The word paeudostratified means that it is not really stratisfied its like simple but looks like stratified due to the position of epithelial cells or due to other cells that are located between the epithelial cells.
