Herbal/Natural pharmacology (Alternative medicine) for the USMLE Step 1
here's another something that I found unusual!
Is there a specific list of alternative medicine herbal products that the USMLE expects us to know? and those that have shown up time and time again? Cuz I heard from a friend of mine who recently took his exam that about 1/3 of his questions relating to pharm had herbal products/ plants on it!
I'll be honest that kinda did freak me out :indifferent:
I'll list the ones that I do know:
Kava = used for chronic anxiety.
Saw Palmetto = used for BPH
Echinacea = used for common cold
Feverfew = for Migraines
St. John's wort = for depression.
help would be appreciated, thanks again guys!
What the hell?! :)) :confused: :happy:
If the USMLE is going to ask about those kind of things, I'm out!!
I feel that way every day my friend, but here I still am.. :) Dont' worry, its probably not that many and I'm sure our friends here on the forum will dig all or most of them up :)
I think we should also include what foods to avoid / increase in various diseases too... Thats a useful topic too I would think...
See pg 312 in the Kaplan Pharmacology notes. There's a table in the toxicology chapter about herbal drugs.
