Psyche Mania and Hypomania

Hi, how prevalent would psychotic episodes be found in patients with mania? Reason I am asking is because psychosis is not typically found in hypomania, yet seems to occur in mania as part of bipolar episodes. Thanks so much for your answer in advance!

I don't think we distinguish between mania and hypomania based on frequency of psychotic episodes, though that would be a thought. I think in hypomania - the patient's life is not affected whereas in mania -they present with psychotic features such as flight of ideas or ideas of reference.

In other words, I might be wrong, but manic episodes in psychosis involve severe impairment in day to day life, whereas hypomanic episodes in bipolar disorder or in psychotic disorder do not render the patient unable to live their life...
