Kaplan Microbiology Kim Moscatello

I am watching the videos of this lady doctor as I read Kaplan microbiology notes.

Nothing personal, but I think her lectures are useless, she just reads what's in there!

Apart from the few jokes she throws now and then she add nothing and her slides are not intuitive.

Unlike Lionel Raymon or Steven Daugherty, this lady adds nothing and her videos is a complete waste of time.

Do you agree with me?

3abass 10-08-2009 06:10 PM

Absolutely agree,

Kim Moscatello is a very low efficiency tutor

I wonder how Kaplan is ignoring this fact!

lemontea88 10-09-2009 06:17 AM

I agree too. :) But then again, microbio is really a dull subject. Not much she can do too though. But she also could have made it more interesting like CMMRS, with inter-relations here and there.

But I used her immuno video lectures. I think they are not bad.

Microbiology at Kaplan video for Step 1

I think that it is a shame that Kaplan charges so much money for such a low level of tutoring as micro lectures. Dr. Moscatello shouldn't teach! Whatever time I spent watching Micro video I don't learn anything new. Additionally, she makes mistakes. Generally, I would just go with my books after the video and reading is much more helpfull that alive video lecture.
Out of whole Kaplan videos for step 1 only pharmacology and behavioral sciences lectures should be recommended as pretty good.
Physiology is not great but acceptable. Biochemistry is below expectations too.

Calymato 04-29-2010 12:33 PM

I agree

Micro isnt too big of a world. If you're not learning anything from a complete review for the boards, that's a good thing

Well, if Dr. Moscatello does not know that HVB & HVD co-infection and superinfection would give different outcomes, if she does not mention that whooping cough is associated very high WBC like lymphoma... And so many other if, if, and if.

Cheers to all and study up.

Why do you think Kaplan noteS are better than CMMRS for micro? I have both, but haven't really looked at Kaplan notes as yet.

riya10 03-28-2011 09:43 AM

yes you are right.
she is really useless, i don't like her too.
her jokes are also stupid.

pradeeprox 04-01-2011 06:40 AM

exactly

i completely agree with u ...

she s d worst then comes our guy in biochem...

seems like he s now only reharsin in front of the cam with his biochem knowledge...

Although either of them are not that engaging, they know the concepts well, and present them in an okay manner.

Kim is better then Turco definitely.

I just watched Turco's videos and although I found him extremely monotonous, I learned a lot and would have to say they are worth the watch.

INCOGNITO 07-01-2011 07:32 PM

Immunology @ kim moscatello

hey dudes tomorrow is our first live lecture with kim moscatello @ immunology
SHE is very expert in immuno
I WILL BE UPGRADING THIS POST DAILY FOR IMP TIPs..:p
like HY and LY and mnemonics polls and other stuff including questions..

INCOGNITO 07-02-2011 01:04 PM

so first day @ immuno wid moscatello went awesome..
BTW she is wife of david seastone(the guy from molecular biology):p
she finished first 5 chapters today...
but i could not get all as i studied only first chapter a day before...:(
AFTER IT WE HAVE GROUP STUDY.....
now a lot of students here in kaplan are confused either to attend group study or not..sometimes its very useful while other time its totally useless and waste of time...:o
i mean if u have studied all material before group discussion then its useful.

THE IMP THING SHE TOLD US TODAY IS AGAIN H.Y and LY thingy
i asked her that how much are u sure that things u ppl tell here in accademy are HY and LY...she said we can guarantee upto 90%

and again during lecture she told page by page which things we should go just for concept and which things we should go deeply....i dont know about other ppl but for me to remember all details of immuno and esp biochem is just like suicide..LOL..
i will in touch and tomorw more tips..

usluipek 07-02-2011 07:58 PM

Hi, IKR 123, what do we need to memorize when it comes to immunology? Any suggestions?

Many thanks!

I WILL TELL U AT END OF IMMUNO DAY @ KAPLAN..as i have to ask many other things to moscatello
so i dont wana give only ma opnion...
dont worry she is with us for 4 days more..thanks

INCOGNITO 07-04-2011 05:25 PM

today even @ 4th july we had no off..:(
SO I GOT TIME to ask kim moscatello a lota things..
first i asked how should WE MEMORIZE THINGS...

she told just watch videos first then read from book then try to memorize only things which u can get easily..DONT TRY MEMORIZE ALL THINGS AT THAT TIME..
go through all chapters and at end give second reading without videos(if u need any one see particular one)..THEN ESP FOR CDs and interlukins etc..
u TRY TO SOLVE QUESTIONS FROM QBANK AND UWORLD..all stuff there is just enough..dont try to memorize all of them..
steadily u will get in mind what u need for exam..:D
and she also told some HY things which i will tell page wise as i have to go through all stuff..thanks

INCOGNITO 07-05-2011 08:57 AM

finally today was end of immuno and we have a test
at end of test we reviewed all questions with kim..BUT she told a lot of questions were not type of STEP1 usmle..:(
a lot of questions were pseudocase and others with ambuigity :o
so we are done with immuno but not i am yet..:(
i think we should only go through standard questions(usmle type) so as to make our taste and tempo accordingly.
CUZ IF WE WANT TO COVER WHOLe STUFF of every subject we will have crap at end..:o

NEXT IS MICRO @ RUEBUSH STARTING FROM TOMOROW..

drdhruv 02-24-2014 10:24 PM

totally agree!!

Do you agree with me?

UNLESS, you have much time and you are ZERO in micro-immuno, no need to go over her lecture

doctor2k14 02-25-2014 11:45 AM

open your FA when watching the videos. anything that you find missing, add to the book. that should suffice.

either way, you want all your information you require in your first aid anyways. well that's what i did. found it useful, may be helpful for you or may not. just a thought.

good luck everyone

Frisco 12-24-2015 01:31 PM

I completely disagree

I am going through her lectures and whenever there is something to explain, she has explained it wonderfully. The lectures are not boring. She does clear the concepts. Microbiology is basically the subject in which all you need to do is just repeat until it sticks in your head, she makes that sticking in head thing lot easier by clearing the concepts.

drdhruv 12-25-2015 08:26 AM

agree

kim is a total waste of time.she just reads thhe notes from kaplan...! better read it by yourself and do first aid. FIRST AID is EXCELLENT for Micro

gokulramani 12-27-2015 12:18 AM

Yeah I watched her videos and I got more confused. Stopped watching it halfway (best decision ever) and spent more time reading the LN.
Her jokes are not even that funny..

dreram 01-15-2016 02:12 PM

yup actually she is the worst. I thought biochem Turco was bad in ithe beginning, but toward the end, he really made up for it. Lot of good stuff and lot of integration to path and pharm from Turco toward the end of the class from. So I enjoyed his lectures.

But moscatello should not be a lecturer. she does not seem to integrate anything. What is worse is I am not sure if she really knows what she is talking about in immuno.

rahulsetia 07-09-2016 02:08 PM

she loves o'reilly & soap operas.
she is a big movie buff.
she hates her mother-in-law.
she tried to kill her once.

thats all i know. i left it midway. :sleepy:

Frisco 08-16-2016 12:49 AM

I agree now

When I first went through her lectures of micro,I kind of liked it and thought that was what micro is all about: pure memorization. Now that I am going through lectures of Mary ruebush(who teaches at Becker), I feel like a lot of things can make sense which Moscatello failed misearably. Appartently Mary Ruebush used to teach microbio at Kaplan. I am loving her lectures.
