Default Very important Tips for beginner

Really very imp tips!
I prepared for step 1 for 5 months but due to some issues i had to cancel my USMLE dreams and stay back at home country.
Some mistakes that i made in prep was also somehow responsible for this decision! If i worked smartly and got good score, may be it would inspire me to work little harder for next few steps! But may be my misfortune

Coming to the point, best tips i can give is

1. Dont postpone exam
Make a goal and crack exam as soon as you can with all your efforts
Your enthusiasm goes down as the time pass! The effort you can put in initial 4-6 months is the most powerful one! Once you spend lot of time you get frustrated and even postponing exam would give you only disappoinents and frustration

2. 4-6 months is more than enough
4 for all student who did extremely well in med school and whose basics are clear
6 for those who are average student

3. Divide your timeline in 3 equal parts
Part 1: understanding basics(whose basic are clear may reduce this time by half)
Part 2: do question bank (usmle world is an undisputed que bank by far)
Part 3: revision(repeat usmle world, give more conc to the que you got wrong. And revise first aid as much time as you can)

4. Dont spend lot of months in theory
Kaplan is the best source! Dont fall in trap of Goljan, its a good book but takes lot of time! Pathoma videos along with its notes is a good option
You may go through pathoma twice (You can read goljan only once in that time. And more imp thing is to read twice pathoma than reading goljan only once)
First read should be little slow along with videos!
Second read should be really quick.
Two reads are enough! Dont go though over and over a dozen time
Go through relevent first aid pages of what you read!

5. Revision: study 6 days a week
On 7th day preferably sunday, revise all those things you studied in 6 days! Very quickly! Do that till evening and go for a movie/dinner/anything you want at night! you need to keep your mind fresh

6. UWORLD: do not worry if u get low score on uworld
Do not go back to theories
Just do uworld random que, along with relevent first aid pages!
Few people suggest you to add notes to first aid from uworld! I think it takes a lot of time!
I prefered to highlight the things im uworld that i found important or those were not there in first aid!

7. Second run through uworold is must!!! It wont take that much time
Pay attention to what you highlighted! And also to those footnotes given after each explanations!
The que you marked wrong should be given more time!

8. At the end it is uworld and first aid that will help you out!
Revise first aid as much as poss! You should know every word in it!

Best of luck to every one!
