Kaplan has videos for all Step 1 subjects. If we were to watch them it takes long time.
For those of you who have watched them all, do you recommend any specific subjects that must be watched while we can skip others. |

If you ever need to skip any of the videos then my personal opinion is that the following videos are not mandatory:
Micro, Anatomy, Immuno, and Physio. The lecturers in these vids are not very useful. This is just my personal opinion |

in my opinion FZIO and BEHAVIORAL are must, patho dont follow it.... follow goljan... because i tell u wat dr. barone is a total misguide... he teaches well but he has left many many imp usmle concepts that are frequently asked on boards... goljan z da real saviour in patho...
infact kaplan patho notes are also not very useful... RR goljan z da real buuk on earth u need to do for usmle!!! |

u havent taken the step 1 have u? when are u planning to take it?
n just to confirm again, u're not doing anatomy are u? ive left out micro n immuno since most people have said its useless, but im wondering if i should leave out anatomy. i mean it just seems a little trivial of a subject to spend a whole week watching it. my exam is in september n i plan to finish all studying 2 months before it so for 2 months i can only do FA memorizing n online Qbanks. what do u think? n to yallah: did u find anatomy totally useful? also, did u find the physiology a bit lengthy? he seems to repeat himself too many times. i find myself fwding thru some places but its still pretty loooong. ![]() |

Dah, I'd say (for me) Biochemistry (w. David Seastone) and Pharmacology (Raymon) were the ONLY useful vids. I spend all the summer making myself watching Physio (Kudrath W. likes to tell same jokes over and over and his "Mr.Jones" stories were really annoying), than Pathology (Barone - handsome guy, nice voice... but not enough info). And my overall test performance was around 50-60%...
It is time consuming and not very productive. I decided to start reading on my own and that works the best for me. I liked the idea of videos, because I have lazy personality and at the back of the mind I was always looking for the magical formula to take the test or for someone to make all the job for me. Lectures matched this imaginary picture perfectly... Some teacher explaining all the concepts to you... reading for you...( ![]() At the end of the day you should go through the material on your own. My days are very short since I have to work, so I do not want to spend time on someone reading and skipping essential concepts for me. |

I think that only the biochemistry video is worth watching and worth the TIME. The videos are painstakingly long and in my opinion, the HOURS I spend watching the videos are better used in reading books. The video on biochemistry did help though, it shed some light on the topics that are difficult to memorize/understand.

Is Neuro helpful? I am still debating if I want to watch it for anat (gross, embryo, histo, neuro). |

Physio : May not encompass the whole subject ...but they teach the limited material they present well. Must See
Histology : Covers the subject but not in detail. Maybe because it is not too HY to do so. May skip Embryology : Fair. Gross Anatomy :Fair Neuroanatomy : Good, but practice a lot of Images from HY Neuro or the Net Molecular Biology : For those whodon'tget the hang of his subject.Must See. Others may pass. Metabolism : Must See. Raymon is great Genetics : Read one pass of the book. Answer some Qs then get to the lectures. It helps you clarify concepts. Must See. Pathology : A Must See subject, but boring lecturers. Please buy another resource like Pathoma to solidify your concepts. If you wanna stay with Kaplan do the old Barone lectures. Sanchez et al. : Skip. Barone: Good Goljan : Must hear and annotate simultaneously. Pharmacology : Raymon is the best ever teacher in the whole wide World. the guy teaching General Principles is also very, very good. Must Must Must See. Immunology : The lectures don't help much despite Dr.Moscatello's best efforts. Read Kaplan Immunology & Immuno portion of Levinson. Skip. Microbiology : Fair. Lecture Notes on Microbiology are shallow & some other review book (CMMRS is what I prefer) must be added for prep. May Skip. See only if you really want to, I would'nt call it a waste of time. A good attempt by the lecturer but notes are the problem. Behavioural Science : Must See. |

Dear all,
I am a FMG doing my step 1 preparation (Microbiology), and am wondering if the videos are important. Except for the immunology there seems to be nothing new in the videos since i have just started Bacteriology. Can anyone suggest if it is really essential to go through the entire video lectures? Thanks in advance. |

That really depends on how well you know your microbiology. I didn't particularly like the Kaplan micro videos (although I thought their Pharm videos with Lionel Raymond were great), so I used other resources for micro. That said, micro is probably my weakest subject now.

I did all Kaplan videos + notes except for Patho (I did Goljan audios + notes instead) and here's what I can say from retrospect:
MUST-SEE Biochem. Dr. Turco is the bomb! He explains all those metabolic pathways so seamlessly + some aspects of molecular biology. Seriously makes those nosebleed subjects a lot easier. Emphasizes a lot on those co-factors which you'll find are repeatedly asked in UWorld. Dr. Seastone and Dr. Reichenbecher were good add-ons for Molecular Bio and Genetics. Still very valuable for someone who found these subjects crippling back in med school. Gross Ana + Embryo. Dr. Seiden lives up to that "old and wise" stereotype of professors. He's Goljan minus the jokes. Simplifies the complicated. Embryo parts are very good and be careful not to skip them as he intersperses them throughout the adult organ systems. Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Beh.Sci. Very, very informative and amusing at the same time, c/o Dr. Daugherty. NICE TO SEE Pharmacology and Physiology. For the latter, I'm talking only about Dr. Raymon and Dr. Kudrath. MAY SKIP Physiology by Dr. Fischer. Too much talk. WASTE OF TIME Histology by (I don't know his name! He's the one who just reads his slides word per word!) Microbiology and Immunology. Dr. Moscatello does more blabbering than what one may write for side notes. Also, I do not like the stuff toys hahaha. Not much to blame though, since Microbiology is, well, a memorization subject. As for Immunology, it may sound very arrogant to say so for a difficult and increasingly important subject, but really did not pick up much from the videos. Take time to watch these vids only if one is desperate, maybe, like me. ![]() Hope that helps! ![]() |

I really liked the statistics/epidemio part i understood a lot of things, i highly recommend them and the doctor that explains it makes really clear points and explains in a way that you can really understand, my biostatistics teacher never really explained the whys of each formula and concept, the doctor explains all of these really really well

Good as a side by side study to tool to notes. you can go back and listen to concepts you don't understand. I think you should watch them ALL at least once to gauge their inherent value. How important is 260 plus to you. Leave no stone unturned.
