Confidence intervals of the form are designed to estimate the
(a) sample mean.
(b) sample standard deviation.
(c) population mean.
(d) population standard deviation.

its basically cos u are finding the mean in ur test sample population..
and then using the CI to apply that data to the Population and predicting a mean value..

(for better explanation check kaplan biostats)
