How to start step 2 prep?

Hello everyone.. This is my first post on step 2 forum.

I need help. I got no clue how to prepare for step 2. For step 1 everyone knows that you gotta do KLN with videos first and then start your real prep with FA and UW. I've searching the net to find out how to prepare for step 2 but I cant find anything informative..

Can someone pls guide me

I am preparing to take step 2 CK in Jan-March. According to the people here, many of them are following MTB 2 for Medicine and MTB 3 for the rest of the objects. Al though I am doing both. MTB 2 is written for Step 2 CK but It does have some deficiencies. These deficiencies can be countered by LEARNING UWORLD Question Bank and adding stuff in mtb 2 from UWROLD.

Some people also do Kaplan Notes instead of MTB 2. But personally speaking I hated Kaplan in step 1..as I couldnt remember a word from it!

Is it necessary to use FIRST AID if i plan to use MTB 2 ans 3..???? keeping in mind that we have recently cleared our step 1...can we just rely on MTB instead of FA....?????

From what I have heard, FA for step 2 is useless, which is suprising considering it was our bible during step 1 prep! I dont think you even need to get it!

I have not read FA for CK .I cant comment on that. But I have been reading MTB 2 and 3 and these are not ENOUGH. It has to be augmented by UWORLD.

could you plz help me with one thing...
about the videos for ck...
i watched nephro and cardio videos and they were helpful... but the others... cant sit through them...
did u find them useful... is it ok to skip them???

It depends on you and your step 1 background and knowledge.

Also depends if you have free time or only spare time.

There different ways, for example in my case im doing this.

Already finished with Kaplan Lecture Notes + Videos

Ill take an NBME and then do..

MTB CK FOR internal medicine only
MTB Step 3 for OB/GYN / SUrgery/ Psychiatry
along with UWORLD.

First aid is a good book but it doesnt outline the content in the most accurate test, best diagnostic test, best step in management etc that Step 2 CK requires, but it is NOT useless.

All the Conrad Fischer videos are a must

Surgery videos are not required as everything is explained the cases in the second half of the book.

I did psychiatry videos but for step 1, seven Daugherty, that guy is a must.

the rest are not that necessary but I watched them just in case

So people do KLN AND MTB? or how does it work?? and is anyone here planning on reading FA at all? I wonder if i should even order that.

Congrats my friend. After doing extensive research on what to read, I concluded that these are the materials used for step 2 CK:
1. KLN +/- Videos depending on ur step 1 knowledge. but really u won't need it
2. MTB 2 and 3
3. UW
4. NBME and UWSA

My suggestion would be to read KLN once then focus on MTB and UW for good 3 months. More than enough to get the highest score possible. Most of step 2 material are step 1 stuff with some twisted approached in work up and management. Good luck.

I didnt do FA for CK, like I did for Step 1, instead I used Usmlerx questions (over 2000), theyre based on this book, it will save you time I think plus you still learn from it, Good luck!
