Hey guys,
How many diagnosis can we miss on the Step 2? Do you have to get each one? I ask because I think I messed up two of the diagnosis. They were lightheaded patients, and I don't think I diagnosed them properly. The reason i missed the diagnosis is because I didn't have time to do a Neuro exam on them. With time running out, I quickly did my closure rather than cram in a Neuro exam. I did however get the remaining 10/12. Have any of you passed with 2 missed diagnosises? Thanks. |

I've been told getting the correct diagnosis isn't a big deal if you put something else with supporting history/physical.

So I took my test on 12th feb in Atlanta .
After the test I didn't really feel as though I RADICALLY messed something up (like being clueless) . Things which make me nervous are (this is the stuff I know for sure I messed up ) - so in one of the cases we had 2 diagnosis which were valid (I got the top diagnosis , missed the 2nd diagnosis totally ) my second diagnosis is still valid and supported but probably should've been the 3rd one . -one case I knew where the issue was but just that being very specific needed findings and they were all negative so I naively put it as (ligament injury of a body part ) I know you can't put stuff like that on your diagnosis ? -one case the SP was just probably trained to deny everything (got the main diagnosis but couldn't dig anything out ! So while closing when I told her about my second diagnosis she opposed and contradicted what I said right away! Froze for a good 10-20 seconds ) Hypercritical mode (Might have missed counseling partially in 1-2 cases ) Positives (Atleast what I feel so ) -empathy on point -strong intro and patient comfort -always washed hands -finished all patient notes on time -everything was structured so i didn't really have to fling questions randomly -English was not really an issue -Asked patient if the plan was agreeable to them , if they have any questions or concerns for me Now I walked out feeling I have done enough to pass , but maybe this is one of those panic moments when I feel I will flunk !! Feedback is appreciated ? Thank you ! |

what is incorrect dianosis. sequence varies but the point is to write 3 diagnosis in all cases. even one positive finding supporting that diagnosis counts.

So you mean to say missing a more probable diagnosis and putting a less likely diagnosis isn't enough to have you flunked ??

You mean that the important thing is to write the three differential diagnosis and what suggest each diagnosis from history and physical examination and did not matter if one of them is wrong.

I have another question for those who have already taken the CS.
In your experience, were most of your 12 cases similar to those presented in the First Aid? Like if we review very well the minicases, and off course go over the 44 long cases, are we good to go? |
