Hi,

My exam is on May 23rd (11 day) remain between exam day and my eligibility (April May June) and I want to extend my my eligibility to (July August September)

I was reading some reply in the forums, here's a quote;
you should first cancel your Prometric date.
then you log into your ECFMG account, and there will be an option to extend the eligibility period. You can extend it only once and you have to pay a fee. It was 50$ till last year.

Once you extend your eligibility period you will be sent a new scheduling permit in the next 2 weeks...once you get your scheduling permit you can reschedule your exam with Prometric.
So is that the steps to do?? in ECFMG should I go to IWA and reschedule ??

Could any one write to me step by step how to do it ???

Correct

Yes, the steps mentioned in the text you quoted are accurate.

Cancel the Prometric appointment. Then log on to your IWA account and click on "extend eligibility period" and wait for new scheduling permit and then log on to Prometric again to schedule a new date in your new eligibility period.

Note, that since you have less than 30 days before your scheduled Prometric appointment, then you have to pay a fee to Prometric.

Note, that requesting an extension of your eligibility period does not automatically cancel your current scheduled appointment, you have to cancel your Prometric appointment first.

written letter is needed.

Hey,

Cancel your already scheduled appointment.

You have to send a letter in writing requesting for an extension in your eligibility period to the ECFMG. Clearly mention your ECFMG ID no. and the letter has to be signed by you.

You will receive a new scheduling permit in 2 to 3 weeks time.

I am not sure about the re-scheduling fee.

Hi, i had to extend my eligibility period. I logged in IWA and sent request for extension of eligibility period. They asked me to send form 183 E verified by college because i just graduated (applied as a student). I was unaware of the fact that i had to cancel my appointment with pro-metric center first... silly me:toosad: I have not sent my form 183 yet and will send it in couple of days. As soon as after reading this post, i canceled my prometric center appointment. WILL I HAVE TO PAY 65$ AGAIN. or its fine now. my test date was 30th june. and now is cancelled.
Thanks

Today I canceled my appointment and rescheduled from ECFMG/IWA and I paid $65.
to extend my eligibility and they didn't send me email

You have successfully submitted the on-line part of your request.
The Certification of Identification Form (Form 186) you previously submitted to ECFMG remains valid.
If the processing of your request is not completed by 25 Jul 2011, your request will be rejected.
ECFMG will send you an e-mail confirmation after receiving the on-line part of your request and after
your request has been processed.
When will they send the confirmation email? after how many days?
and
my status is(Medical education credentials received and verification is pending.)
Is there anything more to do?

does old eligibility period remain an option after extending

i want to extend my eligibility period form may-june-july to aug-sept-oct
my question is can i take the exam in july after i extend my eligibility period or is it only the newly designated 3months (aug-sept-oct)
the problem is that i wanted to take the exam in july but im facing some problems in my home country and i'm not sure if i can still make it in july so i'm extending to be prepared to any scenario, but at the same time i really want to take the exam in july if i can. so does old eligibility period remain an option after extending or not

Eligibility Period Extension

Hi everyone,

I have a question regarding my Eligibility period and extension.
My eligibility period ends in June (it was April, May, June). I feel like I might need more time so I would like to know how to extend it to July August September and most likely take the exam in early July (thats if i extend it)!

I searched the threads and came across Sabio's post above -

Yes, the steps mentioned in the text you quoted are accurate.

Cancel the Prometric appointment. Then log on to your IWA account and click on "extend eligibility period" and wait for new scheduling permit and then log on to Prometric again to schedule a new date in your new eligibility period.

Note, that since you have less than 30 days before your scheduled Prometric appointment, then you have to pay a fee to Prometric.

Note, that requesting an extension of your eligibility period does not automatically cancel your current scheduled appointment, you have to cancel your Prometric appointment first.
My questions are -

1) After clicking "extend eligibility period" how long do I wait till I get my new scheduling permit.

2) Do I have to do anything with the school again? Form 186 ? That was the only form I sent in along with the photos etc when I applied the first time. Do I have to send those in again?

Thanks for the responses.

help

I got my schedule permits and ECFMG sent me this email
Your REVISED STEP 2 CK SCHEDULING PERMIT IS NOW AVAILABLE on the ECFMG Interactive Web Applications (IWA) website. Discard any previously printed permits for this exam.

YOU MUST PRINT YOUR REVISED SCHEDULING PERMIT AND BRING IT WITH YOU TO THE TEST CENTER ON YOUR SCHEDULED DATE. You will not be able to take the test if you do not bring your revised Scheduling Permit to the test center.

To access your Scheduling Permit, go to IWA at https://iwa2.ecfmg.org, login, and select "Print/Reprint your USMLE Step 2 CK Scheduling Permit." Your permit will open in a new browser window. Use your browser's "Print" function to print the permit.
but there is note in the email that I don't understand
Important Note for Examinees who

- cancelled a testing appointment 30 or fewer days before their scheduled test date, or
- were turned away by the Prometric Test Center on their scheduled test date, or
- did not appear on their scheduled test date.

If you fall into one of these three categories and have not already called Prometric to pay an appointment change fee, your updated eligibility record failed to load into Prometric's system. You will not be able to schedule a testing appointment until you call Prometric, as directed on your scheduling permit, and pay a fee to reinstate your eligibility record. After you have paid the appointment change fee, you must e-mail NBME at USMLEReg@nbme.org to notify the NBME that you have paid the appointment change fee. In your e-mail to NBME, you must

- type "Resend Eligibility" in the subject line, and
- type in the e-mail text that you have paid the appointment fee to Prometric. Include your full name, USMLE ID Number, examination type (Step 1 and/or Step 2 CK) and Testing Region in the e-mail text.

After receipt of the e-mail from you, the NBME will send your updated information to Prometric and respond to you within two business days. After you receive NBME's response, you can then contact Prometric to reschedule your testing appointment. Please do not telephone the NBME.

I canceled my Prometric exam date only in 13 may and my exam supposed 23 may I didn't pay for Prometric (I cancel online) and then I extended my eligibility, I paid $65 only
What I have to do plz advise me?
do i have to call the Prometric now or when I want to set a date for my exam?

Yes, Call Prometric to reinstate your eligibility. They'll ask you to pay $50 for cancellation.
Prometric fees is separate from the ECFMG fees.
After you cancel with them (pay the fees), you need to contact the email they mentioned in their email.

PS- Let us know what will happen with you.

???????

I sent the email to NBME (USMLEReg@nbme.org) since 7 days (5 business days if we skip Sat and Sunday) and they didn't reply to me

So I want advise what I have to do? resend them the same email again? or wait?

I have a feeling that there's something wrong here.
The NBME is for US Medical Students only, not for IMGs.
Also this is the first time I hear that you have to email the NBME to confirm your new Prometric appointment!
I suggest you call the ECFMG again. Tell them specifically "why am I contacting the NBME? I am not a US Medical Student"
See what they tell you.

Calling the ECFMG repeatedly does no harm and is often beneficial because different employees have different experiences and knowledge and your second or third call might solve the problem.

Tell us what will happen with you.

I still think there's something wrong.
IMGs should never contact the NBME.
See this page
http://www.nbme.org/contact/index.html
They clearly mentioned in that page that USMLEreq@nbme.org is for US and Canadian Medical students, not for IMGs.

Also, the fact that they told you "you are the first one complaining about NBME, is another proof, that your situation is unusual".

OK, try to call the NBME here's the phone number
(215) 590-9700
Don't worry that they told you not to call, nothing will happen just call them and see what they say about it.

Hi
were you able to figure out what you have to do ?
I am going to change my eligibility period today as well!
I called ECFMG and they said my Form 186 is still valid so i dont have to fill it out again. So i believe i dont have to do anything with the school just have to cancel my prometric appt and apply for extension online. Is that correct ?

today the NBME send me email

Dear Dr.

I was informed that you paid the appointment change fee to Prometric to reschedule your appointment for the above examination.

Prometric reinstated your eligibility record, and I updated your eligibility period in their system. You may now go online or call Prometric to schedule a new appointment in your extended eligibility period using the Scheduling Number from your Scheduling Permit.

Sincerely,
Rachael, on behalf of USMLE Registration

funny i took the NBME 20 days to send the email
so if that happen to someone just call prometric to be sure that the NBME updated ur new eligibility
i hope this experience will help the others
