Ok.. As many of you know I already did my step 1.. Now its time to tackle the 2nd monster ;)

I am at present working and since I joined recently I am yet to get an internet connection. Don't have an SP yet and am finding it difficult to concentrate on my studies !!!

So, I decided that I will post my DAILY STEP 2 progress on this forum.. Just to keep it as a diversion for myself and as a self reminder.. Others are welcome to join me :) so here goes.....

Yeah...finding the RIGHT one is hard LOL, anyway I am about to start preparing for CK and CS at the same time. Can you share us your general plan to tackle CK ? You did very well on Step 1 and I believe you will do the same or even better on step 2 CK.

Touchwood and Thank you for your wishes :)

My plan so far is that I need to get through one read of kaplan asap. I am simultaneously reading Fa. I have ordered the online mtb2 and they told it will take 3 weeks for it to come :0

So that's the plan so far. Since I don't have an internet connection it makes the planning aspect difficult for me :) still, like a GOOD poker player, I am keeping my eyes and ears wide open and observing how others are going about in their preparation :)

The story so far......

I started studying from may 3rd. Since I had to move to a new work place and as I was not sure of the working atmosphere, I brought along with me only Fa and kaplan medicine. Am planning to go home at the end of this month and that's when I am planning to bring my remaining kaplan notes :)

So many people have recommended doing mtb.. So I placed an order online before coming over here. They said it will take 3 weeks for it to come.. So I hope by the time I get back the book will be waiting for me with open arms :)

My studies so far has been pretty much irregular.. Its taking me time to adjust to this new place.. New sleeping environ (am a fickle sleeper!), new accommodation, new Roomi!!!

At present am working in the neurosurgery dept.. Pretty awesome ... I get bombarded with a daily and the only expression I seem to be able to convey is a blank one :D lol

So, I have read endocrine, gastro, cvs, musculoskeletal and haeamtology so far. I read first from kaplan and then the corresponding part from Fa... Kind of a reinforcement I guess ;)

At the time of writing this I wanted to start the haem part from fa, but my bloody laptop charger just stopped working!!! So I hope I can get a replacement here locally or I will have to wait till the end of this month!!! Ouch.. There goes my justice league viewing time ;)

Tom is my 24hrs duty in casualty.. That's like handling 1000 patients.. Alone!!!(now u can stop wondering why I watch the justice league ;)) anyhow, not much of studying, eating or sleeping tomorrow! Still I will try to give u an update tom...

Ciao and wish me luck :D

@ kemoo . I find its not bad at all. Ya I agree, Fa is highly essential for step1. But I am waiting to go thru master the boards before I can form a definite opinion :)

@dr: both of them are quite similar so far, au contraire I must say that fa has got few more points than kaplan.

Ok.. So finally got a strong tea into me and have the energy to type...!

Yesterday was not as bad as it seemed thanks to gods grace.. :) the patient load was monumental but I just dug in deep and kept on goin! Not a wink of sleep last night and I had to do the neurosurgery rounds till afternoon! I skipped the evenin opd... I wonder what my attending will have to say tom ;)

Well that's quite beside the point now ain't it.... yesterday I was able to go through only half of Fa haeamtology.. And today I was way too disoriented to think straight let alone tackle a difficult subject! Hoping to complete it tom... And start a new topic :) my mom called and said that my mtb had arrived... Looking forward to having it in my hand... Soooooooooooooon.. :)

Ok.. time for my daily report... :) at least some people are reading.... For now!!!

Finished Fa haeamtology and started off on kaplan nephro... Its going fast I presume... It can be attributed to the fact that the material for STEP2 is quite similar to that of step1.. You get a sense of deja vu when reading... :)

Frankly speaking I am in no position to give s complete opinion on it because still I am on the look out for offline uw... So I am yet to see the type of questions get thrown at us in STEP2 ... Maybe once I face them my confidence will take a beating!

Today again I have a 24hrs shift.. So, it means today and tomorrow my studies take a beating...!!! Lets c fellas how much more I can take ;)

#15 ·
Well I am happy that some of you find my meanderings and ranting to be interesting ;)

Lets C.. I was able to complete my kaplan nephro , but like how I guessed the next post off duty day was a total drain.. Call me neurotic but the only time I can sleep is in the night... Period! No afternoon naps or siestas for Me.... !

Well today I have to finish my fa nephro... Speaking of which the STEP2 fa is certainly different from step1.. step1 had more high yield material.. STEP2 Fa is like reading a shortened review of all books!!! I may have to change my methodology of study after going thru mtb... till then fa it is.. Knowledge from whatever the source is always welcome :)

Ok.. I am done with fa nephro.. That leaves me with infectious diseases for tom... Usually I don't study on sundays.. But since I have wasted a lot of time this week and also I will be wasting more time next week I guess I should make the best of the available time tom ;)

I seem to be procastrinating a lot.. Its like a railway engine going at half speed and seems to be derailing at every available chance! Blame it on the partially completed track, a slow moving engine and a driver who is just not able to focus!!!

I just hope this slow moving passenger train will become the bullet train soon.... ;)

#17 ·
Fine... I agree.. I am guilty for procastrinating... Yesterday I had the whole day at my disposal and wat did I do? Read a few pages of Fa... Solved 16 qs from qbook and remaining time was spent movie watching and day dreaming!!

Todays 24hrs duty.. So obviously naturally I won't be studying anything (as if I need an excuse!) maybe my pace will pick up once I start off on mtb... Or maybe I am day dreaming again ;)

I know i have been out of touch over the past couple of days. I had a night duty, then a day off where i only slept and then had to do packing and then traveling, then at home, then shopping and now i have a bit time to write into my personal notes

Brother of mine is getting engaged over this weekend so its going to be busy... Other than the regular engagement hectic works i also have to put up with nosy relatives, neighbors and parents colleagues who wonder why is the YOUNGER boy, getting engaged before the ELDER one :toosad:

Also i have come down with a damn flu and my throat is so sore! Its a catch 22 situation... I know i need rest, but still i cant ;)

The only bright side is that i had a quick glance through MTB2 and it sure looks beautiful... :D

See you after the weekend guys.. And keep that mail coming in

Did you receive your MTB already?...duh... Mine just got shipped...

This is my first study plan.

I gave two months to subject wise study taking Uworld along with FA and Toronto Notes (thats the only one available here and I didnt bring any books from back home) taking notes from UWorld in TN
I took UWorld in tutor mode and took it subjectwise

Now UWorld is done once, I am planning to keep MTB as base book and solve UWorld once more, mostly the incorrect and marked options, again in Tutor mode though. I have felt that notes from UWorld were the most HiYield for me in Step 1. So I want to make better notes from UWorld this time and commit them to memory (well.....best effort at trying to commit.:D)

I am hoping to do this by the end of this month and then start on a third round of timed and randomised UWorld.

My eligibilty period is from May to July. I was hoping to take the exam Mid June, but that seems fairly impossible now. I am hoping end July or maybe one extension wont be too harmful if I get a good score..

Thats a very nicely thought and planned schedule you have out there! Just give it a little bit more time... If you still feel you arent prepared well enough then by all means go ahead and postpone the exam :redcheeks;

I hate travelling in bus.. I really do... Makes me all sick and sleepy and nauseous :( I love trains though ;)

Main reason why I am makin this point is to tell that I didn't read anything today.. I hope to start reading from tom.. I hope to solve some questions along with that.. It will give me an idea of the beast I have to deal with to get out of this purgatory ;)

I know its been quite sometime and my sincere apologies.. Things have been keeping me occupied on the personal and professional front.

So, I went through mtb and at the risk of being branded as an outcast I have to say that I am totaly disappointed! Yeah.. I said it.... And there is a reason for it.... I did neurology from mtb and then sat to solve the offline uw questions of neuro.. And boy.. Was I in for a surprise...

There are so many topics they have skipped in mtb... The differentials for ataxia, the differentials for enhancing and non enhancing lesions in brain even the differentials for stroke... These are just a few to name and so far I have done only 1 block!

I am yet to write off mtb... I will go thru a few other topics before coming to a conclusion.. But truth be said first aid in ck is certainly having the edge... Mtb has to come up with something really mind blowing in the next few topics in order to win back my loyalty ;)

I so agree to you on this one atleast. I am so sold on FA after going through MTB. Glad I found someone who doesnt think MTB is the last word on step 2.
