Ok.. As many of you know I already did my step 1.. Now its time to tackle the 2nd monster ;)

I am at present working and since I joined recently I am yet to get an internet connection. Don't have an SP yet and am finding it difficult to concentrate on my studies !!!

So, I decided that I will post my DAILY STEP 2 progress on this forum.. Just to keep it as a diversion for myself and as a self reminder.. Others are welcome to join me :) so here goes.....

Toronto Notes is more like a textbook than a review book, besides it is very bulky. If you want I could email you the pdf version so you could check it out, I havent used DejaVu so I do not have an idea about it.

Here's the amazon link to Toronto Notes but it is pretty expensive if you want to use it only as a review book

I think FA + your own books for review should do perfectly.
MTB should also work if you do not have your own textbooks at hand.
There was a poll somewhere on this forum in which people voted that MTB 2 was much better for Step 2 CK than MTB 3

My new 3g connection is come and i am so so so damn happy... Makes me realise that i am an internet junkie though

Ok.. now back to topic... I went through other topics of MTB2 yesterday whenever i got my free time in b/w my duty...

Like how the author says.. MTB is mainly for
a. the most likely diagnosis
b. the initial best test
c. the most accurate test

that in itself is self explanatory about the book... its not a review book neither is it full of theory :) since i spent 40$ to get the book i sure am going to get my moneys worth out of it.,. but rest be assured, mtb as such IS NOT ENOUGH for answering the questions :)

The beauty of having done step 1 before step2 is that all questions look so familiar... It sure has the pitfall of luring you into complacency, but i just cant help having a sense of dejavu (no pun intended) everytime i do a question! so far, its making me feel that i can perhaps give my exam earlier than expected:p

In other news, i am now on the serious look out for a SP... now that an internet connection is there, i can have better interactions and use skype!! Yipeee.... :D

Time for update.. And i have nothing much to add... Since i have had a couple of interesting cases come my way i was busy trying to search refernces for them on pubmed... and boy, things are so bad there!! Restricted access to most of the articles..!!! thinking of ways to get around the barrier!

And yes.. I am an internet junkie.. Cant seem to have a life staying offline...!!!:happy: i know... its another form of procastrinating, but i just cant seem to avoid it!!!!

I really need to start studying hard.... I know its been quite sometime since i have been saying this,:toosad:

Hoping for better luck tomorrow!!!!!!

dont fret, you are already out of the 'denial' mode, You CAN quit it ;)
:))

but seriously, that seems to be my problem too, once I am online I cant seem to stop myself from doing other stuff!!

Nothing much to report on the preparation aspect :notsure:

Was held up in journal work over the past couple of days... There is a case of retroperitoneal appendicitis and damn its so difficult finding references!! I finally found 2 on pubmed.. One published in 1935 and the other in 1895!!

This means that the next couple of days are going to be even more hectic, asking around friends for gastro books and notes regarding appendix and still searching for journal refernces!!!

Couple that with, sunday i have 25hrs duty! Monday i am moving to my new quarters!! Not seeing much hope in studying over the next few days!!!!:toosad:

:
was it retrocaecal or retroperitoneal? wow retroperitoneal, or even retrocecal appendix is something I havent seen at all! There was just one case of pelvic appendix that I was a 2nd assistant to in my surgery rotations.

I dont even know how behind I am...I was horridly sick these last 2 days...thankfully rest did the trick..

hi i read few posts in this thread, they are awesome, some causal & encouraging friendly environment among the hardworkers:p

i have Q for u bassatom - what will be your exam date?:)
just to know the pace i should be going(but i am), as im prep alone:indifferent:
I am thinking of giving it in Nov. Dont worry... Most of us on CK are ALONE :D

#65 · (Edited)
Nothing much happening on the CK front and its starting to piss me off.. Really a lot:mad:

Shifted into my new apartment yesterday and today the whole day was spent diggin up old case files looking for relevant references

So i hope to give a more optimistic report tomorrow, but by the looks of it, its not looking good :sleepy:

Ooopsie daisie:happy:
Some guy is posting a lot of questions and i had a hell of a time trying to locate my own post!!! Lols...

Well, thats one way to go about studying.. Somebody keeps on posting questions and that makes you realise how much actually behind u are and at least for the sake of answering them questions you will actually pick up the book and read ;)

Here its getting quite chilly and one of my articles got published in a journal... Yay... It is indexed.. But not yet in pubmed... so keeping my fingers crossed there :sorry:

Hope my fellow studying mates are having better luck than me... Do drop in a line.. We all need as much as help as we can :D

same is here...portion is taking lot of time....far behined target....today i need to sit tight and study for long hrs ...problem is easily getting distracted after reading 3-4 pages...i dont know when i will get that serious focus and concentration to study....getting scared:toosad:

that guy seems to be spamming the forum, I had trouble finding the thread too . I just hope its genuine and not some freakish desperation for the USMLE consult.... :notsure:

I am doing bad on the USMLE front too...am kind of in the same boat as Bassatom
managing 2 (3?) things at the same time...to top it off I am starting classes on the 23rd in US ( no not residency) so I have to arrange for everything on that front too..

Thats why Bassatom you are truly my inspiration!..At the time of Step 1 I was managing just one job and a relocation and I keep consoling myself with the thought that my low score was due to that reason...but I think you were in a worse situation than me and still managed a high 99

Aww vienn :) Dont say like that.. Being an AMG you are at a much much better place than me.. Because in addition to doing extremely well in my steps i have to do other extra stuff if i even hope to get a foothold into the residency door :) :sorry:

You will do well.. Just stay positive, confident and keep following me as i enter into one blunder after another.. It will let you know what are the mistakes you should avoid

#74 ·
Thank you :) I think i have expressed my opinion about MTB previously.. There are some aspects of it which are definitely good.. But its certainly not enough if you are looking to ace the boards :) Much over hyped i feel :notsure:

Ok... Had a hectic night on Friday.. Assisted in a Laminectomy on saturday... And spent the whole sunday cooking, washing and doing other sundry work... And yeah... saw matrix revolutions in b/w (puke)

So whats my update on the study front.. Been doing surgery from Kaplan over the past few days.. And i have one word to describe it... AWESOME :D
Its given so wonderfully and succintly that i was totally blown away by the book... I had to literally tear myself away from the book whenever the time came to see a patient... Its been quite sometime anything/anybody has made me feel like that :))

Also maybe it has something to do with the fact that surgery and ortho are 2 of my fav subjects :)

In other news... Umm.. Lets see... Suffering from writers block so i am not able to write down my case report... Nothing seems to be working to make that write.. Need to pen it down asap :notsure:

whats happening out there with you guys..? The new format giving you the heeebie jeebies

Ouch.. Its confirmed.. Coffee is one of the causes of Migraine :toosad: But i love coffee... But not as much as having have to undegoe this fearful headache@!

So, that in short explains my whole day.. Gotta sleep now.. Flunarizine starting to make me all drowsy :sleepy:

Coffee is one of the many triggers I believe. It doesnt trigger it in everyone who has migraine.

I had a friend who would faint due to the severity of her migraine when she had an attack. It was awful. The first time I saw her I thought she was faking it, but she actually had horrible fainting migraines and they were triggered by the heat most times.

dear amber
the fact of the matter is that my studies is pretty much on a roller coaster ride these days... Today i am hopin to complete haematology from mtb.. I wish i could do some questions from offline uw.. But still, am working night today so am expecting it to be very interrupted :)

#104 ·
I am confused... Yes i truly am.. Is it just me or others are travelling in the same boat as i am..

U see.. when i am working.. When there are no patients i open my laptop and start solving UW offline questions patients just start pouring in!!!:toosad: Yup... laugh all you may at my conclusion but thats the total honest truth from the bottom of my heart.. :p i hardly got through 5-6 questions and the patients started pouring in.. I wouldnt have finished examining one when 2 others have arrived seeking my meager attention... and all damn vague cases.. patient 20yrs old female having chest pain and crawling sensation in feet.. Granny with movements of the jaw that come on intermittently and wants a ct done!! have to go through this again tomo also :) its best i feel if i just dont open my laptop tom :D lets c lets c...

The search for a sp is still on... I need one.. Badly.. Tired of talking my problems to myself

#112 ·
So, yesterday i got a temp SP... Its kinda working in fits and starts just like any new relation :) Lets c how far the vehicle goes before it completely breaks down... ;)

Solved 2 blocks of offline CVS questions... and boy were they tough:eek: wheww.... Had a horrible night duty just could get an hour of shut eye! That too dreaming of a patient i had just treated and i wanted to give him haloperidol.. I just cant figure out why :)

I was planning to head off for this month ends relaxation time... you know.. away from work.. Books.. Not the internet.. I just cant seem to stay away from it :D but am too tired to travel today.. Maybe tom.... Maybe :)))))
